چکیده

Figure 1 CT-scan showed right frontal extra-axial collections suggesting an acute extradural hematoma (white arrows) associated to chronic subdural hematoma (black arrows). However, craniotomy showed that the supposed chronic subdural hematoma was a typical subdural empyema. This image illustrates the possible association between epidural hematoma and subdural empyema in patients with craniofacial infections.

Subdural Empyema Presenting with Seizure, Confusion, and Focal Weakness

While sinusitis is a common ailment, intracranial suppurative complications of sinusitis are rare and difficult to diagnose and treat. Sinusitis-induced subdural empyema.

Over a 17 year period, 1975-91, 10 children were managed who had sinusitis-induced subdural or extradural empyema. Their ages ranged from 6 to 14 years, with a mean of 11 years. All presented with worsening headaches, fever, vomiting, all had neurological abnormalities, and all had symptoms or signs suggestive of sinusitis. Initial computed tomography gave normal results in five cases and the e...

Delayed Diagnosis of Subdural Empyema in a Septic Child.

The prompt identification of sepsis in children is challenging, but once sepsis is identified, initiation of care and determination of proper disposition may be insufficient to ensure optimal outcomes. The best opportunity for full recovery also requires rapid identification and treatment of the infectious source. Acute bacterial sinusitis is common in the pediatric population, and although int...

Intracranial subdural abscess with polymicrobial infections due to frontal sinusitis in an adolescent: life‐threatening complication of a common disease

Intracranial abscess is one of the most serious complications of frontal sinusitis, particularly among adolescents, even in the absence of odontogenic infection. Polymicrobial infections due to anaerobes are common. Because antibiotic therapy alone is usually ineffective, early endoscopic sinus surgery is the key for infection control and good clinical outcomes.

Pediatric Intrafalcine Empyema from a Sinogenic Origin: A Case Report

Sinusitis and otitis are common within the pediatric population. If left untreated, these can extend intracranially and lead to the development of infections in the various intracranial compartments resulting in a high rate of morbidity and mortality. We report the first case of an intrafalcine empyema, absent subdural purulence, in a patient with the likely spread from a sinogenic origin. This...
